In Indian and Persian tales, Onyx, a natural stone, is touted as being the protector from evil.  And wearing Black Onyx is meant to have calming qualities and to help balance yin and yang. 
The repetitive  textural layering on this canvas represents black bands of onyx worn around the wrist offering the owner its protection. 
 
The sides of Onyx are painted black so framing is not necessary unless preferred.
The painting is varnished to protect the artwork for years to come.
